Unions sue to halt Rauner's move to withhold 'fair share' fees

The Rauner administration said the lawsuit demonstrates unions “will do anything to keep the broken status quo.”

“We always expected the government union bosses to fight to keep their stranglehold over Illinois taxpayers in place,” Rauner spokesman Lance Trover said in a statement.

Under state law, employees who decline to join a union are required to pay “fair share” fees under the idea they should pony up because they get the advantage of higher wages and benefits the union negotiates on their behalf.
