Local Democratic members of Congress react to Mueller report

“The report makes clear that the facts and legal standards preclude the special counsel from exonerating the president of obstruction of justice,” Foster said in the statement. “Attorney General Barr has clearly decided it is more important for him to act as President Trump’s spokesperson than the highest-ranking law enforcement official of our nation, but Congress has the constitutional obligation to perform oversight of the administration, and this report makes that responsibility even more imperative.”

Foster also said it was “essential” for the American people to hear directly from Mueller “so we may better understand his findings.”

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Western Springs, also released a statement in which he highlighted the 10 instances cited in the report in which the president acted in a way that could have potentially been considered obstruction. But Lipinski also warned against continuing the debate over the report and instead called to focus on other issues that affect the daily lives of Americans.
