A tally of absentee and provisional ballots Tuesday reversed the outcome of the Will County sheriff's race.
Before those ballots were counted, Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Mike Kelley trailed his opponent, Ken Kaupas, by 170 votes. After election judges sifted through more than 3,000 absentee and provisional ballots, Kelley had 471 more votes than Kaupas and declared victory.

The state won’t decide until at least late January whether to temporarily shut down a controversial railroad crossing in Elwood despite opposition from CenterPoint Properties, the developer of two nearby intermodals.
A series of Illinois Commerce Commission hearings concerning safety at the Walter Strawn Drive railroad crossing wrapped up this week in Chicago.

A key Chicago-area planning agency on Thursday agreed to keep the Illiana Tollway as part of the region’s long-range transportation plan despite strong opposition that it would be an overly costly “road to nowhere.”
As it did last year, the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Policy Committee rejected opponents’ arguments and voted to keep the tollway in the updated Go To 2040 plan, which outlines about $360 billion in land use and transportation spending between now and 2040 in northeast Illinois.

It has been a busy time at Workforce Services Division of Will County as a record number of job opportunities have been posted on WSD's job board.
"It's a very busy time right now," said Scott Kettman, Business Services/Special Projects Supervisor at WSD. "Which is an awesome thing for job seekers."
During the last full week in September, the agency's job board hit a record number of postings with the number of listings hovering around 250-plus. "Many postings need multiple people," Kettman said. "Some postings can mean 100 open positions.
