County to pay firm $1.3M to help plan new courthouse

Author: Editor

A $1.27 million contract to map out Will County's courthouse/judicial complex will go to the Will County Board for approval June 19, county spokesman Nick Palmer said.

Wight & Co., of Darien, will be tasked with "programming" the many parts of the complex project, which calls for the construction of a new courthouse, new office space for the state's attorney's office and increased space for offices that work with the judicial system, Palmer said.

County purchases bank building for future courthouse

Author: Editor

The first domino in Will County's long-term building plan fell this week with the approval of a contract to purchase the First Midwest Bank building at 50 W. Jefferson St., the proposed site of a new Will County courthouse.

The Will County Board's capital improvements committee was appraised of the development this week, and the $4 million purchase deal is expected to close sometime this summer.

First Midwest will lease the first floor of the building from the county for up to two years after the closing.
