Raises proposed for Will County officials

Author: Editor

Will County officials are predicting a “lively discussion” about proposed salary increases for elected officials when the county board executive committee meets at 10 a.m. Thursday.

If salaries are to be raised, it must be done a minimum of six months prior to the November election, which leaves the county board with just one more meeting before that deadline, unless it calls a special meeting in early May.

Some elected officials have not had a raise in eight years, said finance committee chairman Steve Wilhelmi, D-Joliet.

Will County is getting closer to building a new courthouse after narrowing down the potential planning and design teams to three Thursday.

The county does not have a timetable yet for building a courthouse. Nor has it made a final commitment to do it. But county officials said the selection of a planning and design team will bring the project closer to reality.

Six teams that specialize in courthouse facilities Thursday presented their qualifications to the Ad-Hoc Courthouse Initial Programming Committee. The county sent out a nationwide request for qualifications Jan. 16.
