State Sens. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, and Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, along with Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, have scheduled a town hall meeting later this month.
The town hall will be to discuss legislative issues and will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 19 at the Joliet Public Library, Black Road Branch, 3395 Black Road, according to a news release from the lawmakers.
“I always appreciate the opportunity to have an open dialogue with my constituents about state and local issues,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “I look forward to answering questions from people who attend.”

Local lawmakers will look for guidance from the Illinois Supreme Court after a judge’s decision Friday to strike down a law intended to fix the state pension crisis.
Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge John Belz ruled Friday the pension overhaul was unconstitutional. In the same afternoon, the Illinois State’s Attorney’s Office announced plans to immediately appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court.

If all goes as planned, state Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, hopes to have legislation creating a court fee for a future Will County Courthouse headed to the governor’s desk by next week.
House Bill 5889, which would give the Will County Board authority to impose court fees to help pay for construction of a new courthouse, passed out of the Illinois House on Thursday by a 72-42 vote and was approved hours later by a Senate Judiciary Committee.
