Agreement signed on possible Joliet courthouse site

Author: Editor
Joliet Mayor Tom Giarrante (from left) watches as Will County Executive Larry Walsh and First Midwest Bank President Jim Roolf sign an agreement to purchase the bank’s building at Ottawa and Jefferson streets for the site of what could be a future Will County Courthouse. The County Board has not finalized a decision on the courthouse, but the acquisition of the bank property makes the project more likely. The signing occurred after the regular May meeting of the Will County Board on Thursday.

County purchases bank building for future courthouse

Author: Editor

The first domino in Will County's long-term building plan fell this week with the approval of a contract to purchase the First Midwest Bank building at 50 W. Jefferson St., the proposed site of a new Will County courthouse.

The Will County Board's capital improvements committee was appraised of the development this week, and the $4 million purchase deal is expected to close sometime this summer.

First Midwest will lease the first floor of the building from the county for up to two years after the closing.

Joliet mayoral campaign heats up over Evergreen Terrace

Author: Editor

In what looks to be the opening salvo of a spirited 2015 mayoral election, District 2 Councilman Bob O’Dekirk and Mayor Tom Giarrante on Thursday went after each other over a citywide violent crime report that focused on Evergreen Terrace.

O’Dekirk issued a statement calling Mayor Tom Giarrante’s release of the report at Tuesday’s council session “a political stunt” motivated by the mayor’s “habitual political shenanigans.”
