In some tight races across Will County, candidates who were ahead after the election April 4 stayed in the lead following a count of provisional ballots Tuesday at the Will County Board room.

Candidates for mayor in Bolingbrook, Shorewood and Wilmington maintained their leads.

In another tight race, Matt McGuire appeared to be in the lead for the unexpired two-year seat on the Joliet Park District board against Patricia Marcum, pending confirmation of final vote results from Kendall County.

Will County Sheriff's Office's opioid-related efforts have saved many lives

Author: Editor

The Will County Sheriff’s Office, like many other police agencies, is spending money to save lives while fighting the county’s opioid epidemic.

Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley and Deputy Jeff Jerz gave the Will County Board Public Health & Safety Committee an update on the sheriff’s office’s opioid-related programs Thursday.

Jerz, the county’s 2016 Deputy of the Year, gave a presentation on Narcan, the opioid antidote that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose if administered in time. Kelley said Jerz has been instrumental in training officers on how to use Narcan, adding that he’ll probably give out 12 to 15 life-saving awards soon because of lives saved in relation to Jerz’s training.

A few election races too close to call until April 18

Author: Editor

Election night didn’t settle anything for a few races where thin margins left candidates waiting until an April 18 final vote count to find out if they won or lost.

A couple of mayoral races, the Joliet park board election and the contest for Bolingbrook village clerk all could be considered too close to call as of Wednesday.

Late arriving mail-in votes and provisional ballots still need to be counted, meaning razor-thin leads are at risk.
