The Will County Board is poised to start chipping away at its serious space shortage after more than a decade of debate.
With $14.3 million in existing funds, the county could soon start on a path toward $441 million in new buildings.
“We have a lot of cramped space and raggedy buildings, and things need to be done,” said board member Denise Winfrey (D-Joliet), chairwoman of the board’s capital improvements committee.

When lawmakers started meeting in January, the newly elected class faced huge, complicated questions about Illinois' disastrous finances, thousands of teachers' retirement futures, gun control, same-sex marriage and gambling in the Chicago area.
Friday is the last scheduled day of their annual session, and none of those issues has been resolved. Some appear mired in unbreakable gridlock.

Silver Cross Hospital is reporting large increases in its patient population in its new hospital, Geoffrey Tryon, its vice president of operations, told the New Lenox Village Board last week.
The number of inpatients has increased by 25 percent, and the number of births is up 40 percent, Tryon said.
