Plainfield park bill headed to governor

 The state bill to expand the Plainfield Township Park District board from five to seven commissioners passed the Senate with a 36-18-2 vote on Thursday.

House Bill 5593 will now go to Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk. If signed, state Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and state Rep. Tom Cross, R-Oswego, would each appoint a new commissioner.

Sen. Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, presented the bill Thursday morning to the Senate.

Courthouse fee bill advances out of Illinois House

If all goes as planned, state Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, hopes to have legislation creating a court fee for a future Will County Courthouse headed to the governor’s desk by next week.

House Bill 5889, which would give the Will County Board authority to impose court fees to help pay for construction of a new courthouse, passed out of the Illinois House on Thursday by a 72-42 vote and was approved hours later by a Senate Judiciary Committee.

Forum held to educate on dangers of heroin

The Albano family knows what it’s like to almost lose a child to an heroin overdose.

One Thursday night, Don Albano saw an unidentified person drop the unresponsive body of his son, Billy Albano, in front of their New Lenox home.

Don Albano and his wife, Gail, took him inside the house after they couldn’t detect any breathing and administered two injections of nalaxone and CPR. Billy Albano started breathing five minutes later and paramedics took over.
