County to pay firm $1.3M to help plan new courthouse

A $1.27 million contract to map out Will County's courthouse/judicial complex will go to the Will County Board for approval June 19, county spokesman Nick Palmer said.

Wight & Co., of Darien, will be tasked with "programming" the many parts of the complex project, which calls for the construction of a new courthouse, new office space for the state's attorney's office and increased space for offices that work with the judicial system, Palmer said.

Obama climate rule promises early health benefits

By targeting the nation's biggest sources of heat-trapping pollution, President Barack Obama is seeking to help forestall droughts, floods and other disasters that are projected to become more frequent, intense and expensive as the global climate changes.

But federal rules requiring a dramatic cut in carbon dioxide emissions from coal- and gas-fired power plants also could have more immediate effects on public health in Chicago and scores of other U.S. cities with chronically dirty air.

Will County Court fee approved by Legislature

Legislation giving the Will County Board authority to impose court fees to help pay for construction of a new courthouse is headed to the governor’s desk.

House Bill 5889, sponsored by state Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, passed the Illinois Senate, 46-7, on Thursday as lawmakers headed into the last days of the legislative spring session.
