Will County urged to act quickly on airport revenue

The law says no property tax income will be received from the airport site and no sales tax will be paid on any building materials used to build and expand the airport, said Quick, vice president of Farnsworth Group in Normal, Ill., and Edward Gower, an attorney in Springfield.

On Thursday, they highlighted the lack of tax revenue from the airport in their presentation to the county board’s executive committee in a two-hour session at the Will County Office Building.

They urged county board leaders to work closely with IDOT before it signs a long-term lease with a private partner to build and operate the airport. If the county does so, it could get some of the lease revenue to pay for roadwork in and around the airport and for public safety services for the airport and its buildings, the consultants said.
