Business leaders thank Larry Walsh for leading Will County during period of economic growth

“I am winding down. My health is first and foremost,” said Walsh, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014. He said he was looking forward to spending more time with his wife, six children and 20 grandchildren.

Walsh, a farmer from Elwood who was known for playing poker with former President Barack Obama when they served together in the Illinois Senate, said he had a simple philosophy about public service. 

“I made it my goal to help anybody who came to me,” he said. “When you really want to help people, there’s a way.”
