Airport, Illiana Expressway top county’s agenda

Author: Editor

Will County Board Speaker Herbert Brooks Jr., D-Joliet, thinks a south suburban airport will create much-needed jobs as well as make air travel more convenient to those living in the area.

“I can’t wait to buy my first ticket,” Brooks said.

The proposed construction of the south suburban airport near Peotone is one of the top issues in the 2014 state legislative agenda the Will County Board recently approved. Brooks said the board “as a whole” supports the construction of the south suburban airport.

Will County Board OKs contract for county workers

Grateful to have all county employees back on the job, the Will County Board on Thursday approved a four-year contract with its union workers, with the only “no” vote cast by board member David Izzo.

The employees will receive a 4.5 percent cost-of-living raise phased in over the next two years and pay more of their health insurance premiums. The union members overwhelmingly approved the contract this month, ending a 16-day strike

Contract talks scheduled Monday between Will County and striking government workers

Author: Editor

Will County negotiators are heading back to the table for further contract talks with striking employees on Monday, an official said.

Nick Palmer, chief of staff for Will County executive Larry Walsh, said the two sides are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holiday Inn in Joliet.

Will County’s union government employees went out on strike last Monday, after 15 months of bargaining failed to produce a contract for about 1,000 members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1028.
