Will County OKs training cops to stop heroin overdoses

Author: Editor

Will County added another tool in its fight against the heroin epidemic as it launched a Naloxone distribution and education program to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose.

It is another step in the county’s continuing collaborative effort to fight heroin, which began over two years ago with its HELPS (Heroin Education Leads to Preventative Solutions) program.

Through a grant with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Will County Board approved a one-year $36,000 contract with Dr. Kathleen Burke to train police officers in how to use Naloxone — more commonly known as Narcan — a nasal spray that can save the life of someone overdosing on heroin.

Running out of room

Author: Editor

Will County’s paper trail grows with each court case, each marriage and divorce, and each home foreclosure.

And it all has to go somewhere.

The county’s Records Management Department, headquartered at a warehouse on Nicholson Street, is required by law to maintain paper originals of certain documents – some of which date back to the 1800s. While some documents must be kept forever, others can eventually be shredded, or preserved on microfilm.

IDOT buys an airport in Will County

Author: Editor

The Illinois Department of Transportation has purchased Bult Field – a general aviation airport near Monee and a key component of the state’s overall plan to develop the South Suburban Airport – for $34 million.

The transaction covers 288 acres, including the airport’s 5,000-foot runway, taxiway, hangars and terminal, as well as additional farmland surrounding the airfield near Monee.

“This acquisition marks a defining milestone for the South Suburban Airport,” Susan R. Shea, IDOT’s director of aeronautics, said in a news release on the acquisition. “The Bults are true aviation enthusiasts who built one of the finest general aviation airports in the country. This ownership transition will be as seamless as possible for airport users.”

The fix is in for Stuenkel Road near GSU

Author: Editor

As Will County Board member Walter Adamic, D-Joliet, aptly noted during a recent meeting, “The road to college can be a bumpy one.”

But Will County officials have teamed up with the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association and the village of University Park to make sure that students traveling along Stuenkel Road — aka University Parkway — have a less bumpy ride to Governors State University.
