Wight & Co., of Darien, will be tasked with "programming" the many parts of the complex project, which calls for the construction of a new courthouse, new office space for the state's attorney's office and increased space for offices that work with the judicial system, Palmer said.

Will County goes to Washington

Transportation issues were among many items on Will County’s agenda when 10 county officials traveled to Washington, D.C., last month during National County Government Month.

“Our primary goal was to educate congressional members and their staffs about Will County and reinforce our issues,” Nick Palmer, chief of staff for County Executive Larry Walsh, said in his report to the county board’s legislative committee this week. “We let them know we are a fast-growing county and will work with them on a regional basis.”

Two full days of meetings with U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk, six local congressmen and four federal agencies was a “valuable” experience, he said.

Elected county officials would get higher pay under a proposal that advanced Thursday out of the Will County Executive Committee.

Committee members voted to increase compensation for the sheriff, clerk, treasurer, board speaker, board members and caucus leaders. The full County Board could vote on the proposal as early as next week when it meets Thursday.

The sheriff’s salary of $110,000 would increase after the November election to $120,000, with increases of $2,500 each of the following three years, under the recommendation by Board Member Steve Wilhelmi, D-Joliet, who chairs the finance committee.
